Welcome back, folks! I hope this finds you in good health and good spirits. We’ve got a big ole’ buffet of news and announcements this week, so let’s jump straight into it!
First off, we are so thrilled to announce our very first competition, the 1st Annual Montana Cannabis Lovers Cup! Read on to learn more about how to enter, the awards party and how judging is going to work!
We’ve also got a report on ongoing confusion around simultaneous firearm and cannabis possession. Despite the fact that HB701 legalizes cannabis for all adults over 21, there’s one big exception: gun owners. We’ll get into the details later.
Plus, the Department of Revenue wants your feedback for an upcoming industry roundtable, we review a killer THCV vape cart from Cloud in Missoula and there’s new jobs in Butte.
Announcing the Montana Cannabis Lovers Cup!!
We are so pumped to announce our first cannabis competition, the Montana Cannabis Lovers Cup!
Here’s what you need to know:
Dispensaries can enter one strain for a chance to win one of a handful of awards, including Best Flavor, Best Smoking Experience, Most Relaxing, Most Sensual and Best Overall Strain.
Entries will be judged by a blind panel of passionate and well-educated consumers largely from outside the industry. The full panel will be announced in next week’s newsletter.
We’re throwing a party at Draught Works in Missoula on February 23 to announce the winners!
It’s free to enter the cup. It’s free to attend the party. There will be free beer.
To enter a strain for the competition, please send me a DM on Instagram! Space is limited to 20 entries, and entries must be submitted by February 1.
To RSVP for the party, please go to this link! We can’t wait to see you there!
Gun Owners Still Can’t Technically Buy Legal Pot in Montana
Over at Montana Free Press, we’ve been getting a fair amount of questions from readers regarding the legality of simultaneous firearm and cannabis possession. So, we called up the federal ATF to set the record straight. In short, the answer is hell no.
Despite the fact that cannabis is now legal in Montana, it remains illegal for a rec or medical consumer to purchase a firearm or ammunition. The form does rely on self-reporting, but in the off-chance that you don’t report, and then get busted, the repercussions are extremely severe.
Dept. of Revenue Wants Your Questions for an Upcoming Industry Roundtable
DOR will be holding a roundtable event at a date TBD in February. In the meantime, they are seeking feedback from stakeholders and members of the public.
We Love Cloud’s New THCV Vape Carts!
Folks, we’re living in an exciting era of cannabinoid development. While Montana shops tend (and are often legally obligated) to focus their energies on THC, there are other stellar compounds in the cannabis plant just waiting to be enjoyed.
I was thrilled to pay a visit to Cloud in Missoula recently, and pick up one of their Purple Punch THCV carts. THCV has gained a reputation for its ability to curb anxiety and PTSD, and as an appetite suppressant.
While vape carts tend to not impact many consumers as strongly as flower, the indica-leaning Purple Punch cart walloped me good. Instant couch. Instant relaxation. I can’t recommend it enough, and if you haven’t paid Cloud a visit, do yourself a favor and go check them out!
